Super Reader

Annie has completed a monumentous task in the world of first graders...she has read her very first chapter book. Cam Jansen has become one of our favorite people. She got her 1st chapter book at the library last week and worked so hard to finish it. One evening we were sitting on the couch and she looked at me and said, "Mom, I never thought I would read a chapter book!". I am so very proud of her.

Actually it has turned out that reading and homework has been the key to her heart. Every mom wants the heart of thier daughters. I feel like most of Annie's 5 year old year I didn't really have it. But somehow doing homework together & reading has opened her up to me and I feel I have her heart. I am so thankful. Sitting at the kitchen table every afternoon reading & studying spelling words & math facts has brought us together. She shares about her day & asks questions.

I'll do homework with her forever and buy a million chapter books if it means I have my daugther's heart.
Thank you Cam Jansen!

Tutu Dresses & Boots

Emily may be our girliest girl. Every day she asks to wear a "tutu dress" a.k.a "a skirt". She also insists on wearing a pink bow and her boots. She is so funny with her opinions....we've had a discipline session over her not wanting a shirt I picked out for her. Oh my...it's only just begun. Look out Claire's, here we come!

Super Husband

Shawn is an amazing husband. Let me tell you one reason why I am blessed to have the best husband in the world......
I was sick this weekend. Started on Friday night and by Saturday I had a full blown stomach bug. My super husband let me sleep all day on HIS day off (literally...I was up for only 3-4 hours total all day) . But what makes him the best is I was scheduled to help host a bridal shower on Saturday night. My job was to make 2 dishes for this event. So my sweet husband cooked both of my dishes for me & took them to the shower (no he didn't stay--he let me sleep some more).
What's more is both girls were up in the night last night. It's important for Shawn to get good rest on Saturday night b/c he has to be up so early for church (he often arrives at church at 4:30 am which means he gets up between 3:30 & 4). Well, b/c I was sick he got up with the girls which meant limiting his sleep. He has even called to check on me this morning.
I am so thankful I have a husband who continually puts me first. He is so committed to helping me and loving me so well. I am so blessed and thankful. On days that I'm frustrated with him, would someone call & force me to remember these days and give me a healthy dose of perspective.

Boy Genius

Today I was reviewing letter sounds with Josh. We get to the letter 'F' and we're talking about how it makes the "fuh" sound like in "fuh-fuh-fire". Josh then says "yeah, like fuh-fuh-distracted". And he was serious.
